The Edge of Eternity
By Judith Bronte
"The High and Lofty One that inhabiteth eternity,
Whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of
a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the
heart of the contrite ones."
~ Isaiah 57:15 ~
ir, I beg your pardon, I can not help but see,
How your feet slide, on the edge of eternity."
I grabbed him by the arm, and strengthened my grip,
"Sir, hold on to me, lest over the edge you slip."
His eyes betrayed fear of death, this he knew too well,
So he let me find a place, to rest him for a spell.
"Sir, can you see what lies ahead?
How the living are divided from the dead?"
He shook his head, so I began,
To show him God's eternal plan.
"The great gulf you see ahead,
Divides heaven's living from hell's dead.
When once you pass this last point,
You and your eternity are conjoint.
Sir, I pray with greatest care,
Look to heaven and say a prayer,
Just ask the Lord, (there's only One),
To lead you forward, in the name of His Son.
Repent from your sin, let Hell's grip requite,
And darkness forever, will give place to light.
Sir, your last breath, will forever decide,
On which land you dwell- the lands that divide."
He jumped to his feet, and voiced a prayer-
Someday in heaven, I'll rejoice with him there.
